Heart Warrior: Saving the Princess

My name is Paul, and I am a Heart Warrior.

I have three large scars on the top half of my body. I’m not a fan of them, and I often will wear slightly baggier clothes as they can sometimes be seen through my tops, especially the back ones. They itch, and I personally feel like they look horrendous. I’m incredibly weird about having my shirt off, I’ve always been quite insecure in regards to showing my rippling muscles off.

I joke. I have no muscles. Anyway..

I remember being glared at by other kids when I showed them, and even adults would stare. Some would give me a sympathetic smile, others would just glare, then look away. I’m aware that nobody meant any offence by looking at me, but it still made me feel uncomfortable and different. One of my Grand parents told me that the scars on my back were where God had cut my angel wings off so I’d appear more human. As a child this gave me comfort, but as an adult I just LOL. I also profusely apologise to my Grandparents that witnessed what I got up to at uni looking down from their cloud. I hope this hasn’t changed your angelic view of me.

I have a large scar down the centre of my chest, and two on my back opposite each other. The former was created by two open heart surgeries when I was 11 and 28. The latter were created by two blalock shunts when I was a bubba.

There is one slight problem with this tale. That’s not how I got my scars.

So there was this one time, when the local high Queen asked one of her knights to save her daughter, the Princess, from the clutches of an evil Sorcerous. The Princess was being held hostage at the Sorceress’s dark lair. Unfortunately there were no Knights available, as the castles annual leave allocation had not been managed appropriately, and they were all off on holiday. The only person available was a Heart Warrior. The Queen summoned the Heart Warrior to the palace for a meeting. He and his trusty steed, a large grizzly brown bear named Iron Heart, went to palace to meet the Queen.

‘Young warrior, will you ride your trusty steed Iron Heart away from the rising sun towards the darkness, to the lair of the evil one, the shatterer of hearts, and save my beloved, beautiful daughter,’ she said.

The boy agreed. Mounted his steed and headed towards the shadows. Many in the village were quite surprised, as they felt the Heart Warrior was more of a prince rescuing kinda guy, but the young warrior reminded them all he was a big fan of boobs and hips. As he approached the evil lair the young boy felt very tired, as was Iron Heart, so they decided to make camp and nap so they could be well rested for all of tomorrow’s rescuing.

The boy awoke. He was in chains. He looked to his left and he saw the Princess also in chains. She looked at him in an incredibly puzzled manner.

‘You were captured too?’ she said.

‘I think so, yes.’

‘Well you are in chains, so you were captured you twat.’

‘Yes, I have been captured.’

‘How? What happened?’

‘There were so many of them, they surrounded me, they..’

‘You were napping outside the evil lair weren’t you?’

‘Yes. Yes I was.’

‘You idiot, and this is who my mother sends to save me.’

‘All the knights were..’

‘Yes I know about the annual leave!’

The Evil Sorcerous entered the room. The boy stared at her, whilst beginning to tremble.

‘You are surprisingly far more menacing and scary than I’d thought you’d be, and incredibly tall for a woman. Are those actual knives attached to your hands? There is a lot of heat and flames coming from your chest, fires of hell reside in you?’ the boy explained.

The Sorcerous ripped off the boys chest armour. She demanded to know where Iron Heart was. The boy didn’t know and tried to plead with her. The Sorcerous gave him one last chance, but the boy didn’t have an honest answer. She pulled a mystical purple blade from her robe and slashed the boy directly down his chest. He screamed. The Princess screamed and begged for the Evil one to leave him be. The boy stopped screaming, the wound had seared his chest creating a deep scar.

The Princess started begging for the boy to tell the evil one where Iron Heart was. The boy still didn’t no. The Sorcerous decided to leave the boy to think for a while, to contemplate whilst he still had the pain from his chest. She left the room. The Princess asked what Iron Heart looked like, and where he could be. The boy explained that every Heart Warrior has a heart shield. A mystical animal mirroring their soul that protects them. Iron Heart was incredibly powerful, and that was why the Sorcerous wanted him. The boy explained that once outside he would be able to sense where Iron Heart was, and would easily be able to find him. The Princess looked different to when the boy first walked in the room.

‘You look different, was your hair always..’

‘Shhhhh,’ she said. She had a plan. She found a piece of metal splint on the floor, managed to curl her toes around it and lift it to her hands. She picked the locks of their chains and broke her and the boy’s hands free. She gripped his hand and ran out the door. The concept of whom was rescuing who now became quite confusing all round. There were a number of guards at the main entrance. The boy drew his sword and began to fight, and the Princess, who was incredibly proficient in sword play, acrobatics, hand to hand combat, and a general ability to neutralise any threat helped. As the boy plunged his sword into the final standing henchman’s chest he wondered, ‘How has this Princess ever been held captive this whole time?’.

When they got outside, the boy began to use his senses to find Iron Heart. They approached him, he was hidden behind some bushes. The Princess had not seen him yet.

‘He’s just over there,’ the boy pointed. The boy began to walk towards him. The Princess pulled out two mystical purple blades and slashed directly down the boys back. The boy fell to the floor and looked up. The Princess shifted and swirled and became the Sorcerous.

‘You’re heart is now mine.’ she screamed. Iron Heart appeared. Growled ferociously and began to charge at the newly revealed Evil one.  She dodged his charge and shot a burst of light at his side. Iron Heart slammed against a tree, which broke and started falling on the boy. The boy quickly rolled out of the way. The Sorcerous began to laugh hideously. The boy, exhausted on the floor, lay defenceless. The Sorcerous creeped over and pulled a large Purple blade from her cloak. She raised it high in the air, about to strike. As she swung it towards the boy’s neck, Iron Heart burst into a bright unbreakable light, and transformed into a large golden shield onto the boys arm. The sword clashed against it. There was an incredible bang, and the Sorcerous was flung back by the golden aftershock. The Boy stood.

‘Until next time, young Heart Warrior,’ she grinned. Then vanished into thin air.

The boy sat down. Took a deep breath. The shield slowly transformed back into a large Grizzly Bear, who sat down beside him with huge, relieved sigh.

‘Well that was close, wasn’t it big guy?’ the boy said.

‘Yes it was,’ said a beautiful lady standing behind the boy. Wearing a long grey robe with a Tiny shield, almost like a pendent, on her wrist.

‘Who are you?’ he said.

‘Haven’t we met yet. Oh. I suppose we haven’t. Anyway. Really well done champ!’

‘Thanks. I think.’

‘That was a test, you passed with flying colours.’

‘Is there actually a Princess?’

‘Yes. There is always a Princess my boy. The Queen made a deal with the Sorcerous. Your Heart Shield for her Daughter. The Princess is now home safe!’

‘…………’

‘Anyway champ, you need to get a move on. You have a meeting you are due to be at any moment now. Lots to do! Prophecies to full fill!’

‘…………’

‘Come on. You need to go!’

The boy stood up. Climbed on top if Iron Heart and began to trundle in the direction the Grey robed lady pointed.

‘So listen up, you are going to meet a Pixie King, to help him fight a giant Colossus. There will be a Flower Princess, A Barbarian, your Princess. Make sure you head south and meet the Whitehawker! The handsome Princes have a story to tell! The Cat Queen, the ladies in waiting of the capitol. Oh and so many adventures in the Northern city!’

‘What?’ the boy said.

‘Don’t be afraid, the General will teach you how to fight. Listen to the voice from the White Isle, he will bring you joy in your darkest moments. Oh and boy!’

‘Errr. Yeah?’

‘Make sure you find the Fairy, and listen to the blonde lady, it’s important you listen.’

‘I’ll try, crazy Grey robed lady I just met.’

The boy riding Iron Heart slowly walked off in the direction of destiny.

And that is how I got my scars. Until next time….
